Also known as Interstate 495 (New York): one of the two major east-west highways of Long Island, the other being the Southern State Parkway. The Long Island Expressway runs more or less down the center of the Island, from its western end at the Queens Midtown Tunnel to its eastern end where it meets County Road 58 in Riverhead, Suffolk County.

The Long Island Expressway is known colloquially to many Long Islanders as "the L.I.E", but also sometimes as "the Long Island Distressway" (for its rush-hour traffic jams which can sometimes go on for miles and miles). (SYWTBAW et seq.)
