The male side of the Dunbar family is of largely Scottish extraction, mostly lowlands Scots rather than highland, and numerous relatives of Betty's paternal grandfather are scattered around the Scots-settled parts of the world, especially in Canada. Others can still be found in the Edinburgh area.
