Intending to trick the initial [[whale-wizards]] into accepting the [[Great Death]] into [[Sea, the | the Sea]], the Lone One appeared to the [[Lords of the Humours]] as "the Stranger", pretending that it had been sent to them so that they could decide under which of their [[Mastery | masteries]] it fell. Secretly, though, as each Lord questioned it, the Stranger offered the questioner what it most desired, if it would only accept the [[Gift, the | "Gift"]] the Stranger had to give. Three of the whale-wizards rejected the Gift: three accepted it, and fell: three were undecided. The vote of the [[Tenth Lord]], the [[Silent Lord]], was required to resolve the issue. In the events that followed, the Stranger's true form and nature were revealed, and the Lone Power was cast down and bound beneath the depths of the Sea. ([[DW]])
