A northern cockatrice: Archaeocerastus scotodasos

(Archaeocerastus scotodasos) Cockatrice species native to the Black Forest area of southern Germany, especially the area east of Freiburg im Breisgau.

This species prefers heavily wooded habitats, and sometimes is found in small colonies in the limestone caves and caverns of the area. For genus details, see also the main listing for Cockatrice.
