Not actually a line, but a threshold: specifically, that stage in a species' early intellectual development when a majority of members of the species understand (and personally experience) that they are thinking beings inhabiting a world which is comprised of more than its merely visible and physical elements.
Normally, the achievement of this state (eclesis) means that the species in question will shortly be offered Choice.
