Like the other two towns, the Town of Hempstead (always called this in conversation to distinguish it from the village of Hempstead which it contains) is rather like a mini-county inside Nassau. It is made up of twenty-two villages and thirty-two "hamlets". A number of these, such as Baldwin, Freeport, and Point Lookout, appear in various books in the series. (SYWTBAW et seq.)
