Arguably one of the sleekest and most beautiful sports cars of the early 1980's, the Esprit's fantastic performance and superior roadhandling characteristics built the "supercar" reputation which it maintained throughout its long production life (from its birth as a concept car in 1972 until its its revamped/restyled version was withdrawn in 2004).  It was probably this reputation that caused the Esprit to be featured as a weapons-laden, souped-up spymobile in the classic James Bond films ''For Your Eyes Only'' and ''The Spy Who Loved Me'' -- a role which the Esprit carried off with grace and style.
