In feline perception, the ancient Otherworld or Alternate dimension which deeply underlies our own. This otherworld is said to be "closer" to Timeheart in the multiuniversal structure, and therefore to have more ability to affect others in its sheaf: events occurring in the Old Downside can be expected to quickly propagate through to "less senior" universes.

The Old Downside closely resembles Earth as it appeared in a much earlier geological era, and the part of it that corresponds most closely to the New York area features immense veldts and hunting plains typical of a relatively warm and dry period of the North American past. Felines there, in particular, are the ancient "great cats" of the post-dinosaur eras -- and feline wizards who visit the Old Downside usually find themselves wearing the huge and powerful bodies of the ancestors of tigers and lions.
