Freeport
Incorporated village on the South Shore of Long Island in the state of New York: the second largest village in the state, with a population of approximately 45,000. It serves as one of a number of South Shore bedroom communities for those working in New York City, and elsewhere in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. (Click here for a live Google map)
Freeport is also the closest large town to the part of Hempstead where Nita and Kit live. In SYWTBAW, they take the bus to Freeport to catch the LIRR commuter train into Manhattan, and they occasionally pass through Freeport on other wizardly business in the course of subsequent books.
