First mentioned by Tom Swale in HW: a general drive to get wizardry-driven devices into the hands of wizards worldwide -- especially younger ones whose lives may be saved in crisis situations by having the speed and flexibility of machine-assisted spelling available to them while their own fluency in the Speech and skill at assembling spells is still growing.

The initiative is mentioned casually at various points in the series. In HW, Dairine first becomes directly involved with it when the new Apple IIIc computer purchased by the Callahan family turns out to be carrying a beta version of the new Manual software. Later, due to her intimate relationship with Spot and the mobiles she builds and mentors on the Motherboard World, Dairine becomes involved with the [[Earth]-based "beta group" working on machine-related Manual implementations.

Additionally, in TBONWM, the feline Senior wizard Ehef (who works in the stacks at the New York Public Library) mentions that he is involved in an ongoing project to port the Book of Night with Moon into the CATNYP master resource catalog at the library (and theoretically further afield as well).
