A creature wolflike in body, but possessed of eyes that are visibly those of a human being. The Manual says that some humans, so lost in hatred of humanity (both their own and others') that they can no longer imagine any other state, refuse upon dying to progress into the much more positive possibilities which normally await human beings after death. Some of these souls find their way into the service of the Lone Power, which constructs these frightening containers to hold them. In return for being granted this grim post-mortal existence, the perytons willingly serve the Lone One as hunters and trackers, and packs of them are especially effective against still-living humans. A human's scent enrages perytons beyond anything else, and they will immediately kill any human they catch. (SYWTBAW)
