The modern MTA logo

(Also "MTA") The New York State-run authority which administers and operates (among many other facilities) the New York City subway system and the Long Island Rail Road. Chartered in 1965, the MTA was originally responsible only for regulating commuter railroads like the LIRR and Metro-North, but later was made responsible for the operation and regulation of all public transport in the state.

For much more information about the MTA -- including rail maps and schedules for the routes Nita and Kit ride when using public transport (as wizards usually do whenever possible so as to save the universe's precious energy) -- see their official website.
