Tiana Beach
In DW, a tiny beachfront community (actually, "hamlet" would probably be a better word) in the township of East Quogue near Southampton, on the south shore of Long Island. Nita's father arranges to rent a beachfront cottage in Tiana Beach for the summer holidays, one year, and the Callahans take Kit along on the vacation, with results none of them quite expect.
In "real life", there is no such community (though the beach is real), and the Zip code given for the address of the beach cottage (38 Tiana Beach Road, Southampton NY 11829) doesn't exist. Tiana Beach itself -- located on the long barrier dune/beach that stretches from Quogue to the Ponquogue Bridge and Shinnecock County Park -- has no habitable structures left on it except for a beach club (formerly one of a series of lifesaving / shorewatch facilities built in the 1800's). If there were houses there, "Tiana Beach Road" would most likely correspond to Dune Road, which runs east and west along the barrier beach. The "village" of Tiana Beach is based on Kismet, a small community near Saltaire on Fire Island.

</googlemap>Tiana Beach has suffered badly from erosion in recent years, though the area's wizards (as well as the local authorities, with the assistance of the US Army Corps of Engineers) have been replacing the eroded sand as quickly as they can. Unfortunately, this is the kind of battle that the Sea usually wins, even when wizardry is involved. (DW)
