The proper name of the Master-Shark at the time Nita and Kit become involved in the re-enactment of the Song of the Twelve. Nita promptly shortens this to "Ed."
Ed is a great white shark of unusual size: Nita estimates that he is about a hundred feet long. The size is assumed to be secondary to the Master-Shark's great age: he is assumed to be at least several centuries old, though some conversations he has with Nita while she's preparing for her role in the Twelvesong suggest he may be far, far older.
