In "real life", there is no such community (though the beach does exist).  The Zip code given for the address of the beach cottage (38 Tiana Beach Road, Southampton NY 11829) does not appear in the [http://zip4.usps.com/zip4/welcome.jsp US Zip Code listing];  and the beach itself -- located on a long barrier dune -- has no habitable structures left on it except for a beach club (formerly one of a series of lifesaving / shorewatch facilities built in the 1800's). If there were houses there, "Tiana Beach Road" would most likely correspond to Dune Road, which runs east and west past the beach and along the barrier dune from [[Quogue]] to the Ponquogue Bridge and Shinnecock County Park. The description of Tiana Beach village more closely resembles that of one of the Fire Island communities like [Kismet].

The entrance to Tiana Beach proper

In DW, a tiny beachfront community (actually, "hamlet" would probably be a better word) in the township of East Quogue near Southampton, on the south shore of Long Island. Nita's father arranges to rent a beachfront cottage in Tiana Beach for the summer holidays, one year, and the Callahans take Kit along on the vacation, with results none of them quite expect.

In "real life", there is no such community (though the beach does exist). The Zip code given for the address of the beach cottage (38 Tiana Beach Road, Southampton NY 11829) does not appear in the US Zip Code listing; and the beach itself -- located on a long barrier dune -- has no habitable structures left on it except for a beach club (formerly one of a series of lifesaving / shorewatch facilities built in the 1800's). If there were houses there, "Tiana Beach Road" would most likely correspond to Dune Road, which runs east and west past the beach and along the barrier dune from Quogue to the Ponquogue Bridge and Shinnecock County Park. The description of Tiana Beach village more closely resembles that of one of the Fire Island communities like [Kismet].

Tiana Beach has suffered badly from erosion in recent years, though the area's wizards (as well as the local authorities) have been replacing the eroded sand as quickly as they can. Unfortunately, this is the kind of battle that the Sea usually wins, even when wizardry is involved. (DW)
